Gibson, it was submitted for publication as "The Hand in the Dark" on August 1, 1931, and published as "Hands in the Dark" in the May 1, 1932 issue of The Shadow Magazine. ==Plot== A large inheritance sparks this crime. A young man is kidnapped from his isolated mansion so an imposter can search for the hidden money, some of it the profits of crimes past. A butler is murdered so another imposter can take his place. The Shadow saves a daughter scheduled for death as she stumbled onto the plot and hides her beyond the reach of the killers but is too late to save an architect. The gang are revealed and The Shadow is lured into a "fiendish oriental death trap" from which he escapes. Having worked out where the hidden inheritance is from a secret code he saw while disguised as a waiter, The Shadow is waiting for the bad guys when they locate the money and gold. One escapes and the others die. The Shadow kidnaps a crooked police officer who has been helping them and there is a final confrontation on a train heading for Canada, where the last two die and The Shadow returns the money to its rightful owners.
